UMGUNGUNDLOVU District will host their annual netball opening tournament on Saturday, February 8 at Westmore Park from 8am.

The tournament will see u17, u21, and seniors (both males and females) come together.

Team registration is R160 per team.

Zimephi Phakathi, treasurer of the tournament, said these games are a build-up to the Umgungundlovu District League which begins soon.

“Everyone is welcome to participate as long as they register their team. There is no closing date and teams can register on the day of the tournament provided that they arrive early,” she said.

“During the whole tournament we will select players to form teams that will represent each local municipality.

We also want to give the opportunity to all the netball players under Umgungundlovu District to represent themselves.

We have noticed that there aren’t many netball events on the sporting calendar so this tournament is the ideal platform for players can boast their talent and gain the opportunity to play in a league and have their talent recognised,” she said.

Phakathi said beside choosing players that will play for local municipalities, they will also have an overall winner for this tournament.
