PROMOTING a healthy living South Africans Against Drunk Driving’s (Sadd) annual AlcoFreeFeb will this year include the option for people to have a sugar-free month as well.

This was done in order to make the initiative open to many who do not drink alcohol, but who want to participate in the campaign.

Every year Sadd encourages the public to join its AlcoFreeFeb by challenging them to abstain from alcohol for the 28 days of February for a minimal fee of R100 for the whole month or R50 for a 10-day challenge.

There are also drinking day passes, called Special Breaks, if there are special occasions during the month at a fee of R20 a day.

The idea is that the campaign would work the same for people wishing to participate in the initiative who want to try giving up sugar for a month.

AlcoFreeFeb is one of the many tools that Sadd uses to educate and inform the public of the risks of drinking and driving and turns the public’s attention to the seriousness of drink driving which can be seen in its motto, “drinking then driving is not an accident, it’s a choice”.

Past participants have said that by being involved in the alcohol-free month they have lost weight, saved money, found more time, energy and productivity in their day and have slept better.

In addition, many people have found that it has increased their awareness about their own and their families’ alcohol consumption, and the possible problems therein, as well as made them feel good about raising money for a charity in a fun way.

This year Sadd is asking people to become a #ZeroHero by giving up alcohol or sugar and promoting healthy living.

The campaign is a fund-raiser for Sadd’s work throughout the year. Donations are also welcome.
