MAKING Mandela, winner of the best youth production at the 2016 Naledi Theatre Awards, is being staged at St John’s DSG at 6 pm today.

Presented by Nick Warren and Jenine Collocott, the play is an imaginative journey through the childhood of Nelson Mandela. It features colourful characters vividly portrayed in beautiful masks, and physical performances supported by emotive sound design and theatrical styling.

The play was chosen because this year marks the centenary of the birth of Mandela and the Afrikaner Broederbond.

Making Mandela — which also won a Standard Bank Ovation Award in 2015 — tells the story of two opposing forces with different upbringings, natures, backgrounds and intentions developed in parallel and destined to one day confront each other in a battle for the freedom of South Africa for all South Africans.

Tickets are R100. Book with Amanda Kruger at 033 386 8304 or e-mail — Arts Editor.
