Blessed month

2019-04-24 06:00

RAMADAAN has come again, commencing on Sunday, May 5.

It is the same Ramadaan of fasting in the day and standing during the night. The same Ramadaan where our daily schedules are altered and our bodies transformed. The same Ramadaan that we see more of the Masjid and come closer to the Quran. And the same Ramadaan wherein some of us might have experienced some spiritual progress.

Chances are that you will go through these same motions this year, and the next, and the next, and the next until you die.

Most of our life is made up of endless repetition. In reality it is only the mercy of Allah that brings Ramadaan over and over again for us, not to bore us but to give us an opportunity to constantly improve ourselves.

The month of Ramadaan is a month of boundless mercy, a month in which Allah showers His blessings freely, and in which Muslims are given the opportunity to secure pardon for their sins and have their needs fulfilled. The rebellious Shayatin are chained in this month, and scores of souls are set free from hell. It is so easy to gain forgiveness in this month, that the person who does not do so has invited the curse of our beloved Nabi Muhammad (S.A.W).

One should value time generally, but more so in the month of Ramadaan.

The fast which is observed in this month creates angelic qualities in oneself, and as the Hadith testifies, the reward for fasting is with Allah only. It creates piety within oneself.

How ironic is it that a person abstains in Ramadaan from lawful things, but out of Ramadaan indulges freely in the unlawful.

One is encouraged to give as much charity as possible in the month and to create the spirit of sharing at the time of Iftar, which should then be implemented in every facet of our lives.

Anyone wishing to gain full benefit of Ramadaan is not required to pass the entire day in the Masjid. He should endeavour to do two things. Make an effort to refrain from sin which will then help him after Ramadaan, and try to progress in making Ibadat.
