THE CANSA Relay For Life committee 2017 invites teams to register for the upcoming CANSA Relay For Life event that will take place on 25 March at the Natal Carbineers grounds in Geere Street.

This year the engine room is buzzing with fresh ideas and the dedicated group of volunteers have vowed to add more pizzazz and adventure to the event.

The 2017 instalment of CANSA Relay For Life will begin at 2pm and end at 2am. The times have changed this year in order to ensure that maximum attendance is recorded for the duration of the event.

During the 12 hours the event promises a colourful package of fun-filled activities for all ages, which will compliment the themed laps.

The most inspirational time of CANSA Relay For Life is the Luminaria or Candle of Hope ceremony which takes place after the sun goes down. This is when we honour cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with the disease.

A luminaria bag is filled with sand holding a small candle in the centre. When the candle is lit, the bag casts a warm golden glow of honour and remembrance. - Supplied
