Bullying at the workplace — have your voice heard

2017-05-03 06:02

BULLYING is a serious problem.

This pressing issue is not limited to children and teenagers, but rears its ugly head in the workplace as well.

As an employee at a pre-school I have been subjected to bullying, carried out repeatedly by my employer.

The relentless victimisation presented itself in various forms including verbal and physical mistreatment, social exclusion and intimidation — all of which are emotionally damaging, not to mention the environment was not conducive for my pupils and I.

The complete lack of professionalism displayed by my employer and the aggressive behaviour directed towards me is in stark contrast to the caring and loving atmosphere that was supposed to be created in a school environment.

My heart bleeds for my pupils who were exposed to this conduct, which is harmful, insensitive and simply unacceptable.

Due to the bullying tactics exhibited by my employer and colleagues, I was forced to resign.

As a result, I am no longer the breadwinner in my family.

This certainly is abuse of power and a form of bullying by individuals who play a significant role in the lives of children.

This begs the question, how do we eradicate the scourge of bullying among children when influential teachers fail to lead by example?

Have you been a victim at your workplace? Has victimisation seriously affected your physical and psychological health? Let’s rather be a victor and not a victim. Have your voice heard.
