THE 2017 instalment of CANSA Relay For Life was a resounding success with hoards of people coming through to support the event. Despite the inclement weather cancer survivors, relay teams and supporters gathered on the grounds of the Natal Carbineers on Saturday afternoon.

The new timing from 2pm to 2am was well received by all teams. This year there were 64 teams, 59 cancer survivors, 47 care givers and in excess of 500 supporters that made the event a success.

Run 4 Life raised the most and brought in over R15 000. The Team Spirit award went to One Circle International (Circle of Love). The team with the Best Site was K and S. The Best Dressed team was RIOT.

“Our thanks and appreciation is extended to all our sponsors. CANSA Pietermaritzburg applauds you for your magnanimity and commitment to find a cure for cancer. The eye-catching banners with their thought provoking slogans coupled with team members colourful attire added to the glitz and glamour of a well organised event.

“The heart-rendering messages of inspiration and hope by our cancer survivors; Val Widdows from Howick Preparatory School, Thabani Shabalala, Sasha Mcathie and Karin Holtzhausen brought tears to the attendees’ eyes,” said Anand Gounden, chairman CANSA RFL. - Supplied
