FACE painting, jumping castles and dog shows were just some of the activities offered at the Cascades Carnival on Saturday.

Open from 9 am, the event at the Cascades Lifestyle Centre drew in large crowds of families all keen to see what the fair had on offer and to enjoy the beautiful weather after the rain.

Various stalls were open by organisations to create public awareness for their causes, such as the SPCA, Pietermaritzburg Animal Rehome and Rescue (P.A.R.R.) and the Pietermaritzburg Children’s Home.

The Hills Pet Nutrition group was also present to keep the crowd entertained as dogs took part in course and obstacle challenges, wowing the crowd with their intelligence and speed.

Guests were also treated to a smooth blend of live music as they ate and enjoyed themselves during the festivities of the carnival.

The music was provided by Durban-based two-man band Beat-Route, who treated the crowds to soulful and jazzy melodies.
