CAR enthusiasts travelled from far and wide to marvel at and showcase their vehicles on Sunday at the annual Cars in the Park festival held in Ashburton.

Hailed as the oldest South African car show, this year saw 14 000 people attend the event to eye out some of the best- looking cars in South Africa. The event attracted cars ranging from BMWs to pimped out vintage Fords which had many spectators gawking in wonder and envy.

Many spectators heralded this year’s event, saying they were pleased with the cars on show and the event itself. “We are car lovers and really appreciate the beautiful cars that were on display,” said Leroy Jimmie on behalf of his family, which attended the event.

The event also raises funds for local charities and bring millions of rands into the Msunduzi economy due to the vast number of tourists who flock to the event, said Karl Haberman, one of the co-organisers of the event.

“This year saw 1 600 vehicles listed for display, which is 200 more than last year,” said Haberman.
