Cashier robbed at a gunpoint

POLICE are looking for two men who robbed the Re-fuel Service Station on Chief Albert Luthuli Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes and two cellphones that belong to employees.

Loop Street Police Station spokesperson Captain Khosi Khonjelwayo said the robbers entered the garage at around 3.30am.

“One suspect had a gun and pointed it at the cashier and demanded cash.

“No one was injured during the robbery. Police are investigating a business robbery case and no arrests have been made,” said Khonjelwayo.

Khonjelwayo advised business owners to beef up their security, especially at night.

“It’s unfortunate that when this robbery happened the garage owners had only one security guard on duty. The guard claims he didn’t hear anything because he was on the other side of the building.

“Although we do patrols at night, businesses need to employ their own security companies because we can’t monitor all businesses at the same time,” she said.

Attempts to obtain comment from the garage management telephonically were unsuccessful at the time of going to press.
