A POET from Kwapatha will for the first time launch his afro-gospel and poetry CD at Imbali Unit J hall on May 27 from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm.

Botsotso Mahlaba will be launching this CD titled Isandla together with maskandi artist Intombi Emnyama whom he worked with on the CD.

Speaking to Echo Mahlaba, who started writing poetry in 1996, said he is very excited that he has finally managed to finish his CD and hopes that the public will receive it well.

“This is my fourth CD but I never launched any of the three CDs that I have previously released. I decided to launch this one because it is very different and I want to introduce people to it. Previously I only used instruments and poetry but in this one I sing as well.

“It took me four months to put everything together and it was not easy since it was my first time singing while doing poetry at the same time.

I have always known that I can sing but I did not have a good support structure at the time to help me show my other talent of singing,” he said.

Mahlaba said he decided to record this CD because he wants to bring back hope to people.

He said there are a lot of negative things that are happening in the world.

“I am trying to warn people about things that are happening and also motivate them not to give up in life using music and poetry.

Women and children are being abused almost everyday but they are not speaking up. With this music and poetry I am trying to motivate and encourage them to speak up against abuse and also warn men to stop abuse against women and children.

We all have a role to play in putting a stop to these problems.

Victims of abuse must know that they have our support and know that we will not judge them.”

He said although the CD will have only four songs during the launch, he plans on converting it into a full album before June 15 with eight songs and it will be available in music stores countrywide.
