Celebrate Mandela Day by giving back to the elderly

NON-PROFIT organisation Just Like Heaven invites the community to come and be part of their Mandela Day Campaign, set to take place today at the Imbali Unit 18 Community Hall from 10 am to 2 pm.

Phindile Shezi-Mohlala, who is the founder of this organisation, said they will be focusing on senior citizens from the community.

“We will be pampering them, massaging them, giving them manicures, pedicures, and health screenings.

“A large percentage of our people have not been medically examined properly for a long time. This means that many are probably unaware of having illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, enlargement of the liver, and heart murmurs, among others.

“It is therefore of utmost importance that everyone should be given the opportunity and be encouraged to have their health status regularly evaluated.

“If you are a medical professional, come and volunteer your services at our free public health screening programmes in order to make a small contribution towards improving the healthcare situation.

“People who are diagnosed with pathological findings will be referred to hospitals or clinics in order to receive follow-up care,” she said.

Community members are encouraged to bring whatever they can to this event.

Refreshments will be served at the end of the function.
