THE Community Development Association (CDA) from the University Of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Pietermaritzburg celebrated the year in style as they hosted their first ever gala dinner on Saturday, October 13.

“We wanted to celebrate the year we have had and honour and appreciate the people who work with us and help us in our various initiatives throughout the year,” said Branch Chief Executive Officer Philasande Mkhafane.

Taking place at the Ascot Conference Centre, the dinner was held as a way for members of the CDA and those who help them to network amongst one another in order to learn about their colleagues and to share ideas about the past and future.

Speaking about their achievements, Mkhafane said: “2018 was a productive year. We held various environmental and leadership projects and, for the upcoming year of 2019, we want to get more involved in youth initiatives and do more projects whereby we monitor the progress of our impact.”

Mkhafane said that they covered various issues in their areas and they want to create more awareness for the youth, especially in schools and universities.

“We want to gain more recognition from business in order to help our community grow and therefore encourage businesses to partner with us,” said Mkhafane.

The CDA can be followed on their social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.
