THERE are some wonderfully caring people in our country. I discovered late on Saturday evening, 30 January that I had lost my wallet.

I was quite distraught, but realised that my last port of call had been at Pick n Pay in Howick. However, it was already 7pm and it was doubtful that anyone would still be there to calm my troubled mind, but much to my surprise someone answered the phone - Ashley Julius - the security guard on duty inside the shop.

He said the shop was empty, but he thought that the manager, Merlin Govender, might still be nearby and provided his cellphone number.

Govender said I must to phone him when he got nearby because there was a wallet in the Pick n Pay safe. He was waiting for me in the dark at Pick n Pay with the wallet.

On Monday morning, the second to last link in this amazing chain was found, Rita Ramluckan.

She said a customer had picked up the wallet and asked whose it was. She looked for evidence of who the owner could be and on finding a bank card, phoned the bank with the details she could glean from the card. The bank phoned me while I was travelling home. Despite the problems in our country we have many wonderful, caring people.
