Chefs in the park launch

2018-03-21 06:00

KHULUMANI Consulting, together with Msunduzi Municipality, have established a new platform for local chefs to show off their cooking skills and also get capital to start their own businesses.

The official launch for this programme will be tomorrow (Friday) at Garden of Peace next to City Hall.

This programme will consist of 10 chefs who will be cooking different meals every Friday between 10 am and 4 pm. This programme will run for three years and each year 10 chefs will be selected.

Mdu Hlophe of Khulumani Consulting said they want to expose the local chefs to the community so that the chefs can get support from the community.

“We ran a competition on our Facebook page where we were encouraging all local chefs who do not have a business to enter. They have to write a motivational letter and provide us with the pictures of the food they have prepared. We then selected ten [who] we believe are the right candidates for this programme.

“The idea is to help our local chefs grow and be able to get capital to start their own businesses. We want them to promote themselves through their cooking for the whole year. This is our unique way of getting chefs into business,” he said.

Hlophe said although this is the first time they are running this programme, they would like it to be something that stays forever so that upcoming chefs and those that are still in school can benefit from it.

“We urge the community of Pietermaritzburg to come and support our local chefs. There will be a variety of different food every week so people must come out in their numbers.”
