THE CATHEDRAL of the Holy Nativity will host a women’s conference on October 19 at the church at 169 Langalibalele Street, Pietermaritzburg from 10 am to 2 pm.

The theme for this conference is “Women Coping”.

Nokuthula Sibisi, who is one of the organisers from the church, said the aim of this conference is to empower women and teach them how to be independent.

“We want women to know their rights and know when their rights are being violated as well as what steps to take after that. We want to encourage women to be independent and stand their ground, no matter what, instead of relying on men for everything,” she said.

Sibisi said this is has been an annual event since 2017 and each year they focus on a different topic that is relevant at the time.

“We always touch on the serious issues that are affecting us now and those that might affect us in the near future.

“We prepare ourselves on how to deal with those problems.

“This time we will be focusing more on women abuse since it is the burning and relevant issue at the moment.

“Most of us women are single parents so we need to know how to protect ourselves and our rights so that we can raise our children in the right way,” said Sibisi.

The entrance fee for this conference is R100 for adults and R50 for youth, which includes food. Children under the age of 12 will pay R20.
