City set to auction old assets

2018-09-19 06:01

MSUNDUZI is cleaning up its house of more than 1 200 assets, including cars and furniture, which are lined up for the auctioneer’s gavel.

According to a report that recently came before the financial services portfolio committee, the asset control unit has redundant and obsolete furniture and equipment in storage that needs to be disposed of.

The fleet department also supplied a list of 156 vehicles that are beyond economical repair.

It had been determined that the identified assets were “not needed to provide the minimum level of basic services” as per the Municipal Finance Management Act.

Some of the items had depreciated to almost no value and would only be usable for parts.

Up for sale would be 590 pieces of furniture, which originally cost more than R650 000, but now carried a value of R19 900.

There are also 51 equipment items, that were once worth a total amount of R149 000, which include four television sets, handheld radios, calculators and a digital camera. Msunduzi also identified 487 pieces of computer equipment, such as printers and laptops, that need to be sold.

Tractors, trailers, trucks and even a forklift carrying an estimated value of R420 700 will also be auctioned.

Action Mandate will be conducting the sale since the company was appointed in November 2017 to undertake all the City’s auctions for 12 months.
