WITH the rugby season fast approaching, the Pietermaritzburg Collegians Rugby Club are on the lookout for any eager rugby players looking to join their 116-year-old brotherhood.

“When you join you will find that we are more than a rugby club, we are a family of brothers brought together by the love of the game regardless of skin colour or religion etc,” said club captain Shaun Clark.

The chairperson of the Collegians Rugby Club, Roy Cook, said they are refusing to allow the sport of rugby to die in Pietermaritzburg and they would be pushing to get as many players as possible to boost the club’s chances of growing.

“With myself, the head coach of our club, Carel Nel, and Clark at helm we are hoping to grow this club and the sport of rugby in the city,” said Cook.

Nel said the club had already started pre-season training, which takes place at the Woodburn Stadium from 6-8 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All home games will be played at the Woodburn Stadium throughout the season and they will play their first game on March 29 against Westville Old Boys.

“The club is also currently looking for sponsors and is open to any assistance from the general public and businesses in our city,” said the coach.

For anyone eager to join or assist in sponsors please feel free to contact:

•Carel Nel at 084 095 0988 or

•Shaun Clark at 072 802 0660.
