Comedy with a purpose in the city

2017-03-08 06:01

A GROUP of Pietermaritzburg comedians is putting its combined talent to good use and organising a comedy show to raise funds to buy sanitary towels for underprivileged girls in the city.

Speaking on behalf of the Comedy Parliament, which has organised a show in conjunction with Just Live Media, Thembela Ngcobo said the event is their way of giving back to the community.

“We wanted to use our talent to give back to the community and after sitting down with Just Live Media we saw a gap with young girls who miss school because they do not have sanitary towels for their monthly menstrual cycles.”

Ngcobo said 75% of the proceeds from the show will be used to buy the sanitary pads which will then be distributed at schools and shelters for girls.

The comedy show will be held on March 4 at the Bessie Head Library auditorium one.

The line-up includes acts such as Mshini Ntuli, Shandis, Monde Blose, Sandile Hlophe, Million and Uhleko lwaseThekwini comedy group.

Tickets are available at the Bessie Head Library reception and at KZN Capital Radio Station offices in Longmarket Street.

Alternatively, Monde Blose can be contacted by phoning 079 588 5276.
