SIVULIZANDLA Community Care Centre in the Willowfontein KwaPhupha area is urging people to help so that they can be to build a proper house for the elderly in the area.

The house will be used as a venue where all elderly people who need help will meet to discuss their issues and also get an opportunity to meet with nurses and social workers.

Grace Mnikazi, who is the founder of this centre, told Echo that she has always used her five-room house as a meeting point.

“I started this centre with six people in 2016 but now I have 150 people. We meet every Tuesday and Friday to discuss the issues that they [elderly] have and try to assist them. I even organise nurses and social workers to come to attend every month so that the elderly don’t have to go to clinics and wait in long queues for them for their medication.

“I have always been fond of elderly people since I was young, that is why I decided to start this centre. I had nothing when I started but because I wanted to help, I tried my best even though it was not easy. I did not even have food to feed them. I would go and sell treats at the school in order to get money to buy bread for them to eat,” she said.

Mnikazi, who sells food at Silwanetshe Primary School for a living, said seeing elderly people happy motivates her to do better.

“We [Mnikazi and her husband] have donated land in our yard to build this centre. All we need now is assistance to make this dream come true. My house has become too small to accommodate so many people.”

Martha Mbhense, who attends the centre, said they are very grateful to Mnikazi and they hope she gets the help that she needs.

“This [initiation of the centre] happened as a miracle but we are happy that it happened. When it started we never thought it would be such a success. I believe that God wants to do big things for us using Mnikazi and Sivulizandla. What we need now is the shelter. This centre helps a lot because we get an opportunity to discuss our different problems and get help. We do not even have to go to clinics anymore. Thank you so much, Mnikazi for taking care of us,” she said.
