FORMER Loop Street SAPS member Edwin Pillay recently died after serving for over 32 years.

Speaking on his former colleague, Logan Govender said it was with much sadness to learn of the death of a former dear colleague after a long illness.

“He joined the SAPS in 1983 at Mountain Rise where he served for a number years and later transferred to Loop Street, which is where he retired in 2016 with almost 33 years of service,” said Govender, adding that Pillay hails from a prominent family of police officers.

“His father is the late Colonel Aaron Pillay, former chaplin of Spiritual Services Pietermaritzburg. His uncle is the late Roy Pillay, recruiting officer for Indian members in Pietermaritzburg,” said Govender.

Pillay is survived by his dear partner Shana, daughter Shonzelle, son Nikolai, mother Doris, and siblings Morgan, Hazel and Premie Pillay.

“I wish to express our deep regret, sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones. We salute you for your unstinted and dedicated service. May his soul rest in peace,” said Govender.
