AFTER MORE than 30 years of service to his community, Warrant Officer Lawrence Govender, who was a member of the Mountain Rise Police Reservists Contingent, died recently following an illness. Speaking on his colleague, Logan Govender offered praises for Govender and his dedication to the SAPS.“Without Lawrence’s enormous contribution and that of other reservists, crime prevention would never have succeeded in the manner it did in the 1980s. “He placed the considerations of his community and country before that of himself and his immediate family,” said Logan. Govender started his career at SAPS in 1982. According to Logan, illness forced him to resign this year after 37 years of loyal and dedicated service to his country and the SAPS.Surviving Govender is his wife, Suraya, and son, Dinesh, who is now stationed as a police Sergeant at the SAPS Flying Squad in Pietermaritzburg. Logan said that Govender will be remembered for his steadfastness, preparedness and willingness to avail himself for duty whenever called upon. “I salute you for the enormous contribution you made in the prevention and combating of crime. My deepest sympathy and condolences to his wife and son. May your soul rest in peace,” said Logan.
