THE Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), Msunduzi Municipality and the museum, SANB and Cogta held a crafters’ year-end function at the museum in Longmarket Street last Thursday.

KwaNgubeni Primary pupils and the elderly and disabled took part, which included playing indigenous games, an arts and craft display and an awards ceremony.

Hlelo Mbense from EDTEA said participants exhibited arts, crafts and projects made with the skills they learnt.

Skills include waste management, recycling and craft-making, which the event recognised and crafters awarded.

“The aim of playing indigenous games is so that the older generation can pass on this knowledge to the younger ones, and that disabled people can be part of the community and take part in most of the games,” Mbhense said.

Museum outreach officer Nokwanda Bujela said the awards were held to encourage participants in their projects.
