FOLLOWING the online posting of a controversial video, covered extensively in the media, which showed a man using extensive brutal force on a man he suspected of committing a crime, chairman of the Sector One Community Policing Forum (CPF) of Alexandra Road SAPS advised the public that helping the police is a vital neighbourhood duty but one that should only be done in the correct, legal manner.

Bell highlighted a recent incident whereby the Sector One CPF managed to apprehend a person they suspected of a crime and handed them over to the police without complication.

“The incident sparked outcry from our residents was totally out of our jurisdiction, however, it brings a bad light on all of us, even though we do things the right way.

“Through teamwork and following the rules, we can work together to eradicate crime in our areas,” said Bell.

SAPS confirmed that in the incident whereby the Sector One CPF apprehended a person based on community information no charges were brought forward as the police could not charge the person based on the supplied evidence.
