THE Cumberwood Ward School Sports Association (Cuwassa) championships from August 29 to 31 was a resounding success.

The inter-school sports event took place at Northdale Stadium, convened by Eastwood Primary and comprised field and track events.

A total of 21 schools took part with up to 10 000 pupils participating in various sporting codes.

Berg Street Primary reigned supreme taking first place, followed by Eastwood Primary and Woodlands Primary in second and third place respectively.

It was the second consecutive year that Berg Street Primary took home the winning trophy.

Cuwassa General Secretary and Eastwood Primary Principal, Kugan Moodley, said the competition was tough this year.

“We are very happy with the turn-out and results. We are proud of our pupils.

“This is the second time in this competition that Eastwood Primary has come second.

“We realise we need to increase our fitness levels in order for us to reach our goals,” he said.

“The standard was very high and much improved from last year’s competition.

“All schools that participated did well and we hoping for more [schools] next year,” said Moodley.
