AFTER winning the 2014 Dance 2 Inspire (D2I) title, Survivors Dance Crew - a Durban dance group - will return to the City of Choice to defend their title as D2I champions.

Following their success they later won the national Shield Do-Dance dance competition, the prize of which was a trip to New York as guests at the World of Dance International competition. They continued to win several dance competitions throughout 2014 to 2015.

However, at the beginning of 2016, they suffered a loss to their three-man crew when they lost their co-founder, Sanele Charles Shangase to a car accident.

The remaining duo, Mlondi Ndlovu and Khulekani Ndimande, decided to continue competing, but needed additional talent, which they found in Enver Moolla, Phiwamanda Zwane and Linda Ndlovu.

“We chose the name ‘Survivors’ because that is what dance helped us do, survive. The name did not just mean we’re dancers, it meant overcoming challenges and is meant to inspire people who are going through hardships,” said Ndlovu.

Dance 2 Inspire: World Aids Day edition will take place at the Winston Churchill Theatre on Friday, December 1 at 12pm. Tickets R50 at the door.

The event has been sponsored by Vodacom NXT LVL, which will be giving away R15 000 in cash, and other Vodacom NXT LVL goodies.

The event will be supported by local hip-hop acts and will have a surprise celebrity guest judge and co-host, and Lunique.

The event is supported by Maritzburg Fever, Vodacom NXT LVL, Department of Health and Department of Arts and Culture, Ilawu Hospitality Group and Cubana Maritzburg.

To find out how you can win tickets, visit the Maritzburg Fever Facebook page. - Supplied.
