MARITZBURG soccer followers are in for an exciting soccer season ride and Maritzburg United management must be congratulated for bravely and wisely appointing the former Bidvest Wits, Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates head coach Roger De Sa few weeks ago.

According to his former colleague, assistant at Wits and at Pirates and former Bafana Bafana midfielder Eric Tinkler, De Sa’s appointment was not only a wise move, it is good news and a huge investment for the team and Pietermaritzburg.

Tinklers says De Sa’s methods of coaching and managing players is not only going to attract more spectators to Harry Gwala Stadium, it will also bring the needed results.

The current Cape Town City mentor says the other plus about De Sa is that he understands the South African soccer culture well and has vast experience in the PSL.

“To bring him on board was a great a move and a huge investment in the team, in the country and in the entire area of Maritzburg in many ways.

“He is the right man for the job, more talent will be revealed and positive results will be achieved,” said Tinkler.

Another former Wits player, Thando Mngomeni, says De Sa is used to turning so-called small teams into giant killers.

“It’s no longer going to be a nice trip or an easy one to play Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium because De Sa will make his team untouchable or destroyers of the so called SA’s soccer giants.

“Also the number of the fans attending matches are likely to increase because the Team of Choice will be playing a different ball game and good results will be achieved.”

A former senior United player and well travelled defender Peter Petersen says that De Sa will change the team and make it a formidable one and instil a winning mentality in it.
