CORDWALLES Preparatory School entered a new chapter at the start of the 104th academic year when their recently appointed seventh headmaster, Lance Veenstra, and newly appointed deputy headmaster, Duncan Greaves, welcomed the boys back to school.
The Greaves family have relocated from Durban where, for the past four years, Greaves was deputy principal of Clifton School in Durban. Greaves will be head of academics and be involved on the sports field.
Veenstra, who spent seven years as deputy headmaster at Cordwalles, is looking forward to the exciting challenges that lie ahead.

Founded 104 years ago by Michaelhouse in 1912 and situated in a leafy suburb overlooking Pietermaritzburg, Cordwalles specialises in Grade RR to Grade 7 boy-centred education focusing on:

• small class sizes;

• learning styles, interests and skills in a changing and competitive world;

• camaraderie of an all-boys school;

• custom-built, spacious pre-primary block with a putt-putt and bike track;

• specialist teachers in drama, music, art, Zulu, DT and IT;

• refurbished unit to accommodate remedial, OT and speech therapists;

• vibrant cultural and music programme;

• top-class coaching with excellent sporting facilities;

• comfortable boarding house for Grades 4 to Grade 7 boys;

• respect and appreciation of the environment;

• exciting environmental classroom in the school forest;

• awareness of those communities who are less fortunate;

• fun and well structured aftercare facilities;

• in Grade 6, the opportunity to experience a student exchange programme to St Piran’s School in England; and

•instilling core values - respect, responsibility, courage, compassion, integrity and much more.

These opportunities afforded to the boys ensure they leave Cordwalles with confidence and self-belief to provide them with the essential foundation for life.
