DISGRUNTLED Eastwood residents recently took to social media to express their concerns regarding the distasteful condition of the community swimming pools in Eastwood.

Shereen Samuels shared her experience at the pools on social media, saying she was disgusted with their state during a recent visit.

“Disgusted is an understatement. What the hell is wrong with the municipality? The grass was as high as my knees,” said Samuels, who added that she will “never ever” take her children there again.

In photographs posted on Facebook, the adult pool is seen to be dark green in colour with the condition of the children’s pool being even worse, with litter floating in the brown water.

“The big pool is green as ever and the children are just swimming in it.

I would rather go to Woodlands or the Olympic Pool than to take my children there again,” said Samuels, who was further incensed as she had paid R13 to get in.

“Why does it cost so much to get into a place like this,” she asked before stating that her recent visit would be the last time she went near “that dump”.

Furthermore, Samuels went on to claim that the pool is only good for adults who want to “sit and drink”.

Fever’s sister paper, TheWitness, recently reported that a staff source had previously told the publication that a lack of financial and other input from the municipality means they are left to pay for the maintenance of the pools out of their own pockets.

Following the concerns raised on social media, the grass was cut at the Eastwood swimming pool.

Samuels said she was pleased about this progress and that she hopes the other concerns will be attended to as well.

Fever reached out to municipal spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha for comment but none was not received at the time of going to print.
