A HEAVY weight in the music industry, Rabelani Madula, more commonly known as “Rabs Vhafuwi”, has embarked on his nationwide tour to promote his new album, 9 Provinces. The next leg of the tour will bring him to Pietermaritzburg, where he will be bringing the roof down this September.

Having worked with the likes of Busiswa, DJ Sbu, and Zahara, and with accolades such as being named the winner of LIMA 2017 Best Dance Single as well as winning Best Dj for the SUCU Online TV 2017, the esteemed artist, who has never appeared on stage in Pietermaritzburg, spoke to Maritzburg Fever about the upcoming event.

Speaking on how he started as a DJ, Madula said that, after receiving various compliments from students after playing at parties and school events, he decided to pursue music as a full-time career.

“I started off as just being a Dj at clubs and parties. From there I evolved to producing my own music and I was fortunate to have friends in the music industry who helped me along,” he said.

The highly motivated Madula said that there was a point in his career where he felt at a loss, and he wanted to give it all up, but he was spurred on by the love of his fans who, he says, are the reason he does what he does.

“I am nothing without my fans,” confessed Madula.

A frequent visitor of Pietermaritzburg, Madula says that this will be the first time that he is in the city for music as he usually visits friends here casually.

Madula said that he wants to use his music and success as a way to inspire and motivate those from the rural areas.

“I want to motivate the less fortunate — those that are being mocked for the way they look or speak — to tell them that it’s possible to make it. I am from there too and if I can make it, anyone can,” said Madula.

Currently in the process of finalizing his tour to Kwa-Zulu Natal, Madula said that his promo staff are in the process of securing venues in Pietermaritzburg and that he looks forward to being here in September.
