Donors needed for children’s Christmas lunch

THE Ward 34 annual Christmas lunch for underprivileged children may be canncelled due to lack of sponsors.

According to the event organiser, Jerry Barnes, the annual Panorama Charity Event was established more than 10 years ago and usually attracts around 150 children from the nearby informal settlements such as eMikhukhwini [Jesmondene], Esitimeleni and Cinderella Park.

“Although things may look tough and bleak about this year’s project, I am still hopeful and crossing fingers that a few good Samaritans will somehow hear my plea,” said Barnes, adding that he personally grew up knowing that the festive season is all about sharing and giving.

Barnes emphasised that because his faith is naturally strong, he is hopeful that someone out there will listen to his prayers.

“My message is simple and straight forward, let us extend a helping hand to needy communities and make those children happy too,” said Barnes, adding that one must always remember that God has a soft spot for hilarious givers.

Items the organiser desperately needs to make the special day a reality on December 21 include; clothes, snacks, cold drinks, sweets, old or new toys, food or lunch packs.

Potential donors and sponsors can contact Barnes directly on 083 521 9553 or
