Don’t forget the ones who brought you up

2017-10-18 06:02

I NOTE with pleasure the “Older Persons Awareness” feature.

I meet many senior people and somehow they open up about their children and grandchildren.

They share certain rules made by their children and that some daughters-in-law never bother to get to know them.

THE RULES ARE:

• they are not allowed to see their grandchildren;

• they have to make an appointment to see their grandchildren;

• they only see family on Christmas Day or Mother’s Day;

• these days are regulated by times between 1pm and 3pm.

Sometimes their children don’t visit them at all. These senior citizens are made to stand in supermarkets turning over the change in their hands as they try to buy groceries.

They stand in long queues to pay rent and electricity with their pension.

They also battle to get to a doctor and sometimes church.

How absolutely horrible to treat the parents, who raised you, in such a disrespectful way.

Ignoring them, disregarding the very ones who gave their love, that you may get to the success you so enjoy.

What happened to family life? What happened to “honour your mother and your father?”
