“WE WANT to put Pietermaritzburg on the map.”These were the words of Imbali Unit BB film-maker Zakhele Duma. Duma and his partner, Lungisani Mbambo from Dambuza, will be shooting a drama series, titled Imbali Drama Series, this month. The show is set to be aired on Mzansi Magic, channel 161, on DSTV. Speaking to Echo, Duma, who is the producer of the series, said he met up with Mbambo and they decided to start shooting in Pietermaritzburg. Mbambo is the writer and producer of the series. “We share the same vision,” said Duma. “We love storytelling, that is why it is so easy for us to work together.“The drama series that we will be filming will be shot in different sections of Imbali and the PMB CBD.“The series will be talking about life in the townships and also cover other things that are happening in Pietermaritzburg. “The whole aim of this drama series is to try and teach people about the importance of making good choices about your life,” said Duma. The producer said he believes that making a film or series is the best way to pass on a message to people without boring them with speeches.“We want to use this opportunity to put our city on the map. We want the world to know that even here in Pietermaritzburg we have a talent for telling stories. “This is not the last drama series that we are doing; we are going to continue. Our dream is to see our stories being aired on SABC,” he said.Apart from this drama series, the pair recently shot a film, Indlela yothando, that will be aired on Mzansi Magic soon.
