Drawing inspiration from Mother Teresa

2016-08-31 06:00

MOTHER Teresa was born Agnes Gronxha Bojaxhui of Albanian parents on 26 August, 1910 in Skopje Macedonia.

She arrived in India in 1929, took her vows as a nun in 1931 and chose the name Teresa after her patroness Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

She received the Nobel Peace Prize in humanitarian work on 10 December, 1979.

Mother Teresa was the embodiment of love, kindness and selfless service.

She spent her entire life on the poor, sick and abandoned and those who were left on the streets of Kolkata, India to die, while the world watched in silence and indifference as she became the caregiver.

What the world witnessed was a divine being, full of compassion doing God’s work on Earth.

Believing that God is in every living being,

Mother Teresa said: “I see God in every human being. When I wash the lepers wounds I feel I am nursing the Lord himself, which is a beautiful experience.”

Mother Teresa maintained that it is preferable to make mistakes in kindness than to work miracles in unkindness.

Mother Teresa neither sought nor expected any kind of recognition. It was selfless work and service.

Her missionary work was larger than life.

She started the Missionaries of Charities Order which is part of the Roman Catholic religion in Kolkata.

Let us draw inspiration from Mother Teresa’s life and hope we will be dragged out of total darkness of ignorance and indifference into a bright world with peace, love, sharing and happiness.

Mother Teresa died in the Mothers House at the age of 87 on 5 September, 1997.

She will be canonised by Pope Francis in September at the Vatican.
