MOTORISTS who use the top section of Deccan Road near the Pafta Hall, say they are infuriated by the condition in which the road has been left.

Municipal workers dug a long, deep trench and filled it with mud and rocks, which have now shifted and created a huge bump along the one side of the ditch.

Most drivers have sworn off using the road until it is fixed, while others who live along the road and are forced to use it, claim that it has caused much wear and tear on their vehicles.

“I have had to replace a tyre on my car because of how bad the road is.

“Every day I have to go over this bump which is a nightmare for my car because it’s bad for my tyres and it scratches the underneath of my car,” said Deccan Road resident Brandan Shunmoogam.

Most residents are clueless as to the purpose of digging up the road, with many saying they are not sure why it was dug up and why it was not fixed properly afterwards.

“One night we just saw that the road was closed and the next morning when we used the road again we got such a shock because we drove through like normal only to hear a loud noise and feel a big bump when we drove over it,” said nearby resident Selvan Anthony.

Municipal spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha failed to respond to queries before going to print.
