Drunk taxi driver gets seven years

THE taxi driver who crashed into a car while drunk, killing a 12-year-old girl, has been sentenced to an effective seven years behind bars.

Sibusiso Ntuli was sentenced at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday to six years in prison for culpable homicide for killing Philasanda Zondo.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison or a R10 000 fine for drunken driving, of which half is suspended for three years, provided he does not commit the same offence in that time.

He has also had his driver’s licence revoked. Ntuli crashed the Toyota minibus he was driving into a car on Church Street in February.

He was found to be over the over the legal limit for alcohol.

Professional drivers’ blood alcohol content may not exceed 0,02 g/100 ml. Ntuli’s blood alcohol content was 0,10 g/100 ml.
