Duigan to perform masterpieces

CHRISTOPHER Duigan will perform masterpieces by Schumann, Ravel, Rachmaninoff and Bach at concerts in Kloof and Pietermaritzburg.

The renowned concert pianist will perform at Casa Mexicana, 35 Montgomery Drive, Athlone, Pietermaritzburg on Friday, September 29 , from 6pm and at the Tatham Art Gallery in Chief Albert Luthuli Street, on Sunday, October 1 at 11.30am. Tickets at Casa Mexicana, are R200, including dinner, which is served from 6.30pm and tickets for the concert at the Tatham Art Gallery are R80.

Principal works include Robert Schumann’s Kreisleriana, one of the composer’s most enigmatic compositions, and Maurice Ravel’s Miroirs - a set of five pieces that explore the layered sonority and colour of the piano. JS Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring and Sheep May Safely Graze, with music by Sergei Rachmaninoff complete the programme. These iconic compositions are pillars of the classical repertoire and Duigan, a Steinway artist, will bring his unique view on these compositions to the fore.
