Edendale shooting: Two in court

2019-05-08 06:01

A MAN who is alleged to have killed his wife appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg magistrate’s court on Friday charged with five counts of attempted murder in a separate case.

Nzomusa Cyprian Kheswa has not yet been charged with fatally stabbing his wife, Edendale Hospital nurse Nontobeko Kheswa (41), on Friday morning.

Police and prosecutors said this was because the killing and the attempted murders took place in two different areas. Thus one crime is being investigated by the Mountain Rise police station and the other by the Plessislaer police station. Only the attempted murder docket came to court on Friday.

Kheswa is charged along with Musa Dlamini. They are alleged to have opened fire at a car on Edendale Road in which there were five people: Mthobisi Zulu, Thembinkosi Mxulmalo, Xolani Mkhize, Vela Ntuli and Nkazimulo Zungu. All five were wounded and Kheswa and Dlamini are charged for attempting to murder them.

They are also charged for being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

One of the wounded men took down the number plate of the vehicle in which the gunmen were travelling. He gave this to police, who arrested Kheswa and Dlamini.

Kheswa then allegedly told police he had stabbed his wife and took them to where he had dumped her body. The two men have been remanded in custody.
