NO arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Jimmy McGlinchey (94), who was found dead in his home on Laurence Crescent in Hayfields in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.

It is alleged that a robbery had occurred at the house.

McGlinchey’s naked and bruised body was found by his domestic helper at around 8am in what was described to the Fever as a“horrific and gruesome” scene.

According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, after assessing the man’s injuries, paramedics declared McGlinchey dead on the scene.

Captain Kholeka Mhlongo from the Alexandra Police Station said of the incident: “The kitchen door was forced open and that is how the suspects gained entry into the house.

“The man was later found by his helper, who arrived at his home earlier in the day,” said Mhlongo.

Police confirmed that a white Volkswagen Polo 1.6 with the registration NP 164731 was stolen from the man’s garage.

A resident who lives nearby and wished to remain anonymous said McGlinchey was living alone as his wife had died recently.

“We are a bit shocked and scared at the moment because it doesn’t make sense to kill such an old man.

“Recently there was a break-in on this road so it’s a bit overwhelming,” said the resident. Captain Mhlongo confirmed that a case of house robbery and murder had been opened and is being investigated by the Alexandra Road SAPS.
