RESIDENTS throughout the northern areas complained of having no electricity for hours on end almost every day of last week as well as this week. Areas such as Copesville, Northdale, Raisethorpe and in the northern district had power outages with residents complaining that these unscheduled power outages affected their households deeply, especially during the school holidays.“We could not do anything on Wednesday with such a heavy downpour and the lights off our children were left completely bored, cold and hungry for the most part of the day. “When the lights come on we just do as much as we can and prepare for the next power outage,” said mother of four Donna Anthony from Raisethorpe.Sheryl Singh said that her calls to the municipality offices were in vain as each time she got through, she was then directed to another number.“We get absolutely no response and are being made to wait on the phone while our airtime gets wasted and all for nothing because at the end of it we are still left with our questions unanswered,” said Singh. Meanwhile, it was noted by various residents that even though they did not have electricity the street lights could be seen on during broad daylight, which confused many. Municipal spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha failed to respond to queries directed to her before print deadline.
