THE first ever Mr and Miss Spring Imbali Unit 18 will take place on October 6 at Imbali Unit 18 Church.Ndumiso Ngcane from Unit 18, the event organiser, told Echo that she decided to host this event because she wanted to give children and youth in the area the chance to showcase their talent. “It will be the first time something like this has happened in our area and I am so excited. “When we were growing up, we never had a platform like this where we could showcase our talents. “We are trying to take the children off the street and drugs, and make them realise that there is so much that they can do with their talent. “It breaks my heart seeing young children on the streets and others doing drugs because they are bored and they don’t have anything to do. The only time that you get a chance to see talent in our children is when they are doing something on the street and you are lucky enough to be passing by. We want them to show us their talents so that they can be recognised and get help so they can grow. We also want to bring our people together,” she said. Ngcane said she plans on hosting this event every year to keep the children busy.Besides a modelling competition, there will also be a guest speaker who will render a motivational talk and teach children about the danger of using drugs and quitting school. The competition is open to children aged five to 19 years old and entry fees are R50 per model.Spectator tickets are R15 for children younger than 12 and R20 for ages 12 and up.
