ADDICTED to petrol, benzene and other drugs from a young age, Bongani Putsoane (23) did a 360 degree turn in his life and is now on a mission to serve his community and will be releasing a book based on these experiences in the hope of helping the younger generation.

With a focus on working with schools and helping young people in leadership, Putsoane is associated and works with registered NPO African Enterprises (AE), where he is part of the Firefox team whose mission is to evangelise in the cities of Africa in word and deed, in partnership with the church.

“I am from very humble beginnings and have done bad things in my life like steal to feed my addictions in my younger years but I made a complete change in my life when I decided to go to church and become involved in the youth.

“So powerful was the work of God within me that I did not need to go to rehab and once I had made the decision to change there was no looking back for me,” said Putsoane.

Since joining AE, Putsoane has become a mentor and motivational speaker for the youth and while doing mission work has visited places such as Zambia, Durban, Johannesburg, Mafikeng, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg and Bloemfontein, to name a few.

“Our work is to develop leadership skills in the community. We aim to teach life skills which restore godly values, and train youth and school leaders in leadership courses,” said Putsoane.

Putsoane says that his book chronicles his many life experiences and includes valuable lessons on how he overcame them.

He will be releasing his book titled “Down but not out” in May at Dunveria High School, a school that he attended as a pupil.

“This book is my testimony before the youth, especially as I am dedicated to making a difference in young people’s lives,” said Putsoane.
