THE Mountain Rise Police Station held its annual year-end awards function in December 2018 at the Truro hall, inviting members of community policing organisations and ex-police officers to the event for the first time.

Retired members and members of the community were given an opportunity to kindle and rekindle friendships and relationships.

Various members and ex-members of the police and community policing forum (CPF) were awarded, with Brigadier Bala Naidoo, chairperson of the Retired Officers Social Club, receiving the award for invaluable, loyal and long service to the SAPS and the various communities under his protection, and the prevention of crime during his tenure.

Head of the Free State Intervention Team and former Mountain Rise police officer Brigadier Peter Pillay offered a special welcome to the stalwarts in attendance.

Retired police officer Logan Govender said it was an honour for him and other retired officers to attend the awards.

“I would like to, on behalf of the Retired Officers Social Club, express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Brigadier Boxer Pillay and the staff of the Mountain Rise Police Station for their kind invitation,” said Govender.

Gavin Hoskins, who represented the Woodlands Neighbourhood Watch, was honoured for his service to the station throughout the year and thanked the station for recognising his and many others’ efforts. “This award has been a humbling experience and the work that we do could only be done with the dedication and support of the community, police and CPF,” said Hoskins.
