THE youth of the St Albert Church in Esigodini came together recently to bring some Christmas cheer to a struggling family with a donation of food.

The food was officially handed over to the Nsindane family on Saturday, December 14.

Sabelo Vilakazi, the youth leader at St Albert, said they decided to come together as a youth from the church and do something for the community.

He said they had planned a two-day camp for the youth and, during those two-days, they wanted to do something good for the community.

“We went around the area and identified a struggling family. We bought them groceries for Christmas because we want them to have a good Christmas celebration, just like everyone else.

“This is a season of giving and making other people happy, that is why we decided to donate food.

“With this initiative we are also trying to get the youth involved in things that centre around uplifting the community.

“We want to keep the youth busy with something that will benefit the community,” he said, adding that, although this is their first initiative as the youth of Esigodini, they are planning on doing more in the future.

“I believe that there is a lot that we can do as a youth to uplift our community.

“Projects like this will also help the youth stay away from drugs and alcohol,” he said.

A representative from the family said: “Thank you so much. I do not even know what to say — I am speechless. I did not expect this.

“You have changed our lives.

“These groceries will be a great help to our family.”
