THE family of Benjamin Joseph were left reeling after Joseph was killed at an Allandale pub in the early hours of Saturday morning in an incident that was hauntingly familiar to the heartbroken family.

Speaking to the Maritzburg Fever, Joseph’s sister, Mona Munisami, said that her family feel like they are reliving a nightmare all over again, having lost their other brother seven years ago.

“We don’t understand why this is happening to us — seven years ago we lost our brother under similar circumstances,” said Munisami, who added that they did not receive justice seven years ago and fear that they will again be left without closure.

Munisami said she was present when her brother was involved in the altercation that led to his death and that prior to that the bouncers from the club had stopped the fight. However, when they had left the club, her brother was ambushed by two suspects, who were later detained by police.

“Benjamin was trying to calm the situation down and for his life to be taken like that is heartbreaking. No matter what people say about him, we know what happened because we were there.

“We know one of the men who did it, we have known him for a long time. My family was out celebrating an anniversary in our family and were not expecting this at all,” said Munisami.

Jospeh will be laid to rest on Thursday.

The two suspects are expected to appear in court on May 30.
