FOLLOWING a tragic start to their new year, Derrick Thomas and his family are on the search for justice for family member and father of two young girls, Murdock Romario Thomas, who was fatally shot in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

According to Thomas, the brother of the deceased, Murdock was allegedly shot after returning from a club in Bird Sanctuary with his friends. “I was told he jumped out of the car on Adlaar Road when a man who was seen to be in a white BMW got out and shot him three times,” said Thomas, adding that he was almost 100 metres away from the incident when it happened because he stays in the area.

Since the shooting, Thomas says that he and his family have not been given any kind of closure from police with little to no information having been given.

“We laid my brother to rest on February 5 and since then we have been left in the dark regarding the investigation,” said Thomas, who added that he suspects his brother was shot at because of an altercation that had occurred in the club that they had been in on the night of the incident where he tried to stop a fight from going further.

Thomas said that they have had no contact with the shooter since his brother’s passing but they hope that justice will be served.

Spokesperson for the Mountain Rise Police Station Captain Gay Ebrahim confirmed the arrest of the man suspected of shooting Murdock. The case has been remanded to February 27.
