VARIOUS members of the Church of Overcomers have embarked on a mission to feed the homeless across the streets of Pietermaritzburg every Thursday and are appealing to the public for any assistance.

“A group of us from our church who get together on Tuesdays decided two weeks ago to start this initiative off,” said Shuan Knox, who is already part of another feeding scheme involving the police in the Copesville area.

Knox said that the topic came up two weeks ago during a Tuesday church meeting where various members get together to discuss topics of concern.

“We know most of these guys who are homeless do drugs but we want to try and help them in any way possible,” said Knox.

The members of the church group have congregated for two weeks now on a Thursday at 6.30 pm to cook soup and distribute the soup accompanied by bread and cool drink to various homeless people across town starting at Victoria Road.

“We also have a talk with them to find out about the issues they are going through and try and help them by praying for them and feeding them as well as providing them with blankets for this cold period that we are approaching,” said Knox.

Knox along with another member of the church group, Andre De Jager, say that they are hoping to grow this initiative and welcome any form of donation towards their cause.

Those wishing to contribute can contact Knox on 083 544 4204.
