FOODPAK held their annual Festive Fair and Baking FEVER event last Wednesday where the best bakers in town showcased their skills.

Cakes on display were baked in accordance with the three categories of the competition, namely: designer gingerbread house, designer Christmas cake and most delicious Christmas cake.

Prizes up to the value of R20 000 were up for grabs for the winners as well as lucky draw prizes for those in the audience.

“This year we were very open to surprises but also wanted entrants to reflects their family, company, South Africa, love or charity,” said Foodpak owner Ryan Zammit.

The competition was only opened to those in and around Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands within a 45km radius and bakers were allowed to enter more than one cake per a baker.

“All of our edible cakes that were entered are pledged to the Salvation Army’s Children’s Christmas Party this year end while the winning entries will be put on display in our store until we donate them to Salvation Army as well,” said Zammit.

All cakes were judge by a panel of professionals who judged the cakes by a specific criteria stipulated according to the various categories.

Zammit said that over 30 cake entries had been received, with over R20 000 worth of prizes being awarded thanks to the sponsors of the event.

“We had a wonderful Festive Fair and the 10 magnificent gingerbread houses filled with sweets will be enjoyed by the children at The Salvation Army children’s party.” said Zammit.
