Fireworks safety tips

IF you’re using fireworks to celebrate Diwali, Guy Fawkes or New Year’s Eve, take heed of the following safety tips.

• Obey all local laws.

• Buy from a licensed established supplier

• A responsible adult should supervise all fireworks activities.

• Alcohol, drugs, and fireworks do not mix.

• Wear safety glasses.

• Light one firework at a time.

• Use fireworks outdoors in a clear area .

• Never relight a “dud” firework.

• Always have a bucket of water nearby.

• Never carry fireworks in your pocket.

• Do not experiment with homemade fireworks.

• Dispose of spent fireworks.

• Ensure all pets and animals are away from fireworks noise.

• Don’t point fireworks at people.

• Follow instructions on the packaging.

• Keep pets indoors with music playing.
