QUALIFIED Judo instructor, Siobhan Esterhuysen, hosted her first ever beginners Judo competition on June 1, with 70 entrants from across Pietermaritzburg schools such as Athlone Primary, Northern Park Primary and Gateway Christian School.

“This competition was all about preparing the players to partake in bigger competitions in the future such as the Natal trials,” said Esterhuysen, who is a holder of a first degree black belt and is also a qualified Judo instructor under the International Judo Federation Academy.

Esterhuysen said that all involved inthe competition trained extremely hard to be ready to compete with the best results coming from Gateway Christian School with the pupils bagging 45 medals altogether. “I am looking forward to hosting more competitions in thefuture as it give the players the opportunity to see what they train for.”.
